While we try to be through on this site, we don't want to blow your mind with information overload. Below is the abbreviated version of the Arizona insurance application fingerprinting process, but you can click here for a 9 page step by step walkthrough of the process.

Fingerprinting information:

Upon accessing the portal click on icon "Background Check"
Log in with an existing account or click "It's easy to create one " to establish a new account for an "Individual"
Enter in the fingerprint code INS-055.A
Please be aware a fee of $22.44 to be paid via Credit Card must be completed before the application can be processed
After payment has been made you will receive a "Reference Number" that will begin with the letter A followed by numeric digits. Retain this number as it will be needed two additional times in your licensing application process.
After you receive the Reference Number, you will then navigate to Fieldprint and click on the ‘Schedule Appointment’ button.
Once you have created an account and logged in, scroll down to the “Don’t have a ‘Fingerprint Code’ section, Applicant Processing and select ‘Continue with this Reason’
Enter in the Reference Number you obtained from DPS in the Reference Number Field, enter in your last name and date of birth and select continue.
After validating your personal info/demographic info, create your appointment, pay the Fieldprint fee ($8.25) and receive confirmation of your appointment.

Step 4: Submit Your Application

After completing your pre-licensing education and passing the Arizona insurance licensing exam with flying colors, it's time to submit your licensing application to the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions . Ensure all required documents are included and accurate, as any discrepancies could delay the process. You can either apply online through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) or you can submit a paper application (NAIC uniform license application for an Individual). NIPR online applications are generally processed more quickly than applications submitted on paper. The easiest and most common way to apply for your Arizona Insurance License is online through NIPR.

The non-refundable fees that must accompany your application include:

$120 Licensing Fee
$22 FBI Fingerprint Processing Fee (The FBI fee is different from the fee you may be charged to have fingerprints applied to a fingerprint card.)

You can pay with a credit card if you submit your application online through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). You can pay by check or money order, made payable to "Insurance Licensing Section" if you mail your payment with your license application and other required materials to the Department of Insurance Licensing Section.

Step 5: Await Approval

The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions will review your application and you will receive one of the following:

A notice telling you that your application was approved. Use License Search to view your license on our web site to ensure that your license information appears correctly. Use the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) to correct or update information.
A notice telling you that your renewal application was denied. The notice will tell you the reason for the denial and will provide you with instructions concerning your right to appeal the decision.
A notice telling you that your renewal application was deficient. This notice will be emailed to you. You must provide the Department with any additional materials identified in the deficiency notice or accompanying instructions. You must cure all identified deficiencies or they will deny your license and you will forfeit the fees you paid.

Assuming everything goes as planned, your license will be available from the License Search option on their website as soon as the Arizona Department of Insurance verifies you meet all license requirements. You will NOT receive a printed license certificate. License applications can take up to one month to process. Of course, you can not conduct insurance business until your license is processed.

You need a 70% to pass the exam and get any of the above Arizona insurance licenses.

What is the deal with “Pretest” questions?

When you sit for your Arizona insurance licensing exam Prometric will add pretest questions to your exam. These are questions on which statistical information is being collected for use in constructing future examinations. Responses to pretest questions do not affect your score. Pretest questions are mixed in with the scored questions and are not identified. If you miss them all it doesn’t hurt you…but answering them correctly does not help you either.

How long are my test results valid?

In Arizona, you must apply for the license within 1 year (365 days) of passing the pre-licensing exam. If your passing test result is over 1 year old, you will be required to take and pass the exam again.

What if I fail my exam, how early can I retake it?

In Arizona, you can schedule a new exam 24 hours after your most recent attempt.

What if I fail my exam, how many times can I retake it?

Arizona law limits you to four attempts to pass an exam for a particular line of authority within a one-year period. After a fourth unsuccessful attempt, you will have to wait one year from the date of the last attempt to retake the exam. Arizona law treats failing an examination that covers more than one line of license authority the same as failing the examination for each individual line of license authority.

Can I convert a different state's license to an Arizona Resident License?

If you are relocating to Arizona from a state where you have a resident license in good standing,

and you want to hold the same license in Arizona,
and Arizona offers that same resident license authority,
and your license application is received within 90 days after you cancel your license in your former home state,
and you submit a clearance letter from that former home state.

Then Yes, you can convert your existing license without taking the pre-licensing examination.
